SPOTLIGHT
LIGHT IT UP

EAHS Trick-or-Treat Night (Elkhorn)
If you're only going to attend one community Halloween event this year, make it the EAHS Trick-or-Treat Night. The event transforms the entire high school into a Halloween wonderland packed with activities, games, treats, and surprises for kids of all ages. The event is hosted at Elkhorn Area High School and is designed for children in 5th grade and under, accompanied by an adult.
What makes this event so special is its size and variety. Every room seems to offer something different, from slime-making stations and pumpkin decorating to themed games and interactive activities. There are princess meet-and-greets, popcorn, and even a pitch-black "Find the Pumpkin" challenge that adds just the right amount of spooky fun. Before long, you'll realize you've barely scratched the surface of everything there is to do.
The event runs for several hours, and honestly, you may not have enough time to experience everything. Around every corner is another activity, game, or themed room waiting to be explored. The high school students who volunteer to run the event do an incredible job creating a welcoming atmosphere and are often very generous with the candy, which certainly doesn't hurt their popularity with the younger crowd!
What stands out most is the community spirit. The students, staff, and volunteers clearly put a tremendous amount of effort into creating an event that's fun, safe, and memorable for local families. It's one of those rare events that feels bigger and better than expected the moment you walk through the doors.
Whether you're coming for the candy, the games, the decorations, or simply a fun night out with the kids, the EAHS Trick-or-Treat Night delivers. For many local families, it's become a Halloween tradition, and after one visit, it's easy to see why. If there's one community Halloween party worth putting on your calendar, this is the one.

Why the EAA Family Museum Passport Membership Is Worth Every Penny
At first glance, spending $100 on an Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Family Museum Passport Membership might seem like an unusual purchase for families. But it may be one of the best family memberships available. A standard family mempbership costs $60, while the Family Museum Passport Membership is $100 and includes reciprocal admission to hundreds of museums and science centers through the ASTC Passport Program.
Beyond museum access, members receive EAA benefits such as discounts and special access during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, aviation publications, educational resources, and access to EAA events and chapters.
One of my favorite examples of the value came during a visit to Discovery Center Museum in Rockford. After hours of hands-on play, my kids were getting overstimulated, so we walked next door to the quieter Burpee Museum of Natural History to spend some time with the dinosaur fossils and exhibits. Without reciprocal admission, we'd have had to choose one museum or pay separately for both. Admission for a family of four would have been about $104 between the two museums, which is more than the cost of the annual membership.
Heading to Milwaukee? Discovery World features interactive science exhibits, a Great Lakes aquarium, and hands-on STEM experiences. A family of four can easily spend nearly $90 on admission.
Planning a Chicago day trip? Between the Field Museum's dinosaurs and world cultures exhibits and the Adler Planetarium's space exploration experiences, a family outing can approach $200 in admission value.
The best part is that these benefits aren't limited to Wisconsin and Illinois. The ASTC Passport Program includes hundreds of participating museums and science centers across the United States and even some international locations.
For families who enjoy exploring, learning, and traveling, this is one membership that can easily pay for itself after just a single outing.
